The above ad is very common on job boards. This is not so much as a scam as it is an exaggeration. The companies that place these ads do NOT hire mystery shoppers. They only sell you a list of the companies that hire the shoppers.

Mystery shopping is a legitimate business.  Most companies use them to evaluate their employees or products. They will hire a mystery shopping company to send mystery shoppers to their store.

There are many legitimate mystery shopping companies out there. You fill out a standard form on their website and they put you in their database. If there is a job in your area and you meet the  profile that they need, they will contact you. You do not become an employee of the mystery shopping company. You work as an independent contractor. Therefore you can work for as many companies< as you like.

Very few people make a full time living doing mystery shopping. Most people do it to supplement their income. You can choose an assignment when its convenient for you. In order to get a lot of assignments, apply to as many mystery shopping companies as you can (at least 50). If you are diligent, you can easily earn $300 - $500 a month. Some people earn more but this is the exception rather than the rule.
